Community Champion for Mental Health Award Winners
During our Stronger Than Stigma event program, we chose to honor two remarkable mental health advocates in our community. CONGRATULATIONS to our Community Mental Health Champion Award Winners: Guy King and The Dave Andreychuk Foundation.
Individual Community Champion Award:
As we looked to award our first Community Champion for Mental Health, we could think of no one more deserving than Guy King. With more than a decade of board service, Guy has seen the organization through an executive leadership transition, name change, and countless battles for state and local funding. The growth of Gracepoint’s services, mission awareness, and statewide reputation has happened with the help of Guy’s leadership and community influence.
However, this story involves more than just one person’s connection to a strong mission, this story is about impact and legacy. Guy’s mother, Anne King, along with two other women, Martha Ferman and Martha Hall as members of the Tampa Junior League had a vision for meeting a critical need in our area, and in 1949 Mental Health Care, Inc. was established. Now as we prepare to celebrate our 70th anniversary next year, we look back at those founding members and see the legacy the King family has had on our community.
We are so grateful to Guy for being a true champion and advocate for mental health. On behalf of our board leadership, Gracepoint staff, and all of our community partners – we are pleased to award Guy King as our first Community Champion for Mental Health.
Agency Community Champion Award:
The Dave Andreychuk Foundation has been giving back to our community by supporting different children’s charities in the bay area, and in Canada, since 2007. The Foundation has three goals: Assist children in need; Support causes for children and families enduring chronic and/or life threatening illness; and Encourage the investment of youth and amateur sports. After touring Gracepoint’s Children’s Crisis Unit last October it was easy to see how our youth service programs were a great fit their mission.
Over the last year the Andreychuk Foundation has worked to raise awareness about mental health and provide financial support to Gracepoint through their grant award process and Annual golf event. Working with Dave, Susan, and their executive director Arlynn Haarer has been a great experience. We are thrilled they chose to highlight mental health this year and we want to especially thank Susan Andreychuk for her desire to connect with Gracepoint to make this relationship possible.
We are pleased to award The Dave Andreychuk Foundation as our first Agency Community Champion for Mental Health.
